What is hiding in your attic? Most people don’t know. It is not really a place that most people go to very often – if ever. During a home inspection though, your attic is one of the most important areas to be inspected. But what are some of the issues that we find in an attic?
There are several issues that we find, but here are just a few. First, we often find out the true condition of the roof. A roof can look great from the outside, but could show a different story on the inside with leaks, rotted sheathing, and other issues.
We also tend to find unwanted guests in an attic. All sorts of vermin like to hide in attics, including mice, bats, snakes, squirrels, and chipmunks. On occasion, we may even find something a little bigger, like raccoons. They all tend to stay very quiet by nature, so most people don’t even notice them.
Other issues found in attics also include missing insulation, ventilation issues, electrical problems, bathroom fans and dryers venting into the attic, and more. So be sure to have a home inspection – and pay close attention to the attic!
